10 Wedding Planning Secrets Only Pro Know

Planning a wedding can seem really overwhelming, but great news is, it doesn’t have to be! We’ve helped planned countless weddings at Gabbinbar Homestead; along the way we’ve picked up a few tips so this is a must-read if you are newly engaged. Here are 10 wedding planning secrets straight from the pros.

A smiling bride dressed in a white robe reaches to hang her ornate, beaded wedding gown on a mirror in a softly lit room with beige curtains. The room has plush seating and creates an elegant, serene atmosphere suitable for wedding preparations.

1. NUMBER R.S.V.P. CARDS BEFORE MAILING

Write on the back of your RSVP cards in pencil to keep track of anyone who doesn't respond or forgets to write his or her name on the card.

2. LEARN HOW TO BUSTLE

Let’s be honest bustles aren't part of your everyday wardrobe. So, eliminate day-of confusion by taking a how-to video during one of your fittings.

3. LADIES, GET YOUR LIPPY RIGHT

Nude lipstick will wash you out in photos. Go for a true rose lipstick—it will translate as the perfect pinky-nude shade in your wedding photos.

4. DON’T HAVE JUST ANY OLD RAIN PLAN

If you're getting married outdoors, have a rain plan that makes you genuinely happy. Remember, there's no such thing as a weather magician and you may have to put plan B into action the morning of your special day.

5. PUT YOUR JEWELLERY? ON LAST

Hair spray, perfume, and makeup can dull diamond rings and ruin pearls. So, make sure you leave the bling till last and pop these on just before you walk down the aisle.

6. OPT FOR A BEVERAGE PACKAGE

We’d recommend choosing a drinks package over a bar tab as bar tabs often work out more expensive in the long run. Even though some guests don’t “drink” they will still drink something non-alcoholic and this generally is what uses up bar tabs quickly.

7. GO FOR EDIBLE FAVORS AT A DESTINATION WEDDING

If you’re having a destination wedding, we’d recommend giving your guests edible wedding favours so they don’t have to squeeze them into their suitcase. Excess baggage fees at the airport aren’t fun for anyone.

8. PHONES OUT OF POCKETS

Guys, take your phones out of your pants pocket—especially if you're in a slim-fit suit. Nothing looks worse in your wedding photos than an outline of an iPhone staring right back at you.

9. WORK OUT YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGY

Make sure you have the discussion with your fiancé before your big day about what you want to do with social media. Work out if you would like to keep things private with an unplugged wedding or if you would like to tell the world and let people tag away with a hashtag.

10. PEPPERMINT TEA WILL BE YOUR BUDDY

Peppermint tea or chamomile for those who don’t like peppermint is the perfect beverage to sip on whilst you get ready. It’s a natural way to help calm the nerves and those little butterflies fluttering around in your tummy.
